Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth Receives 18 laptops donated by Schlumberger

By electronic recycling association May 28, 2020

ERA and CBFY have a long standing partnership and we have been committed to providing them with many refurbished computers over the last five years.  Schlumberger was interested in being a part of our donation activities so they chose 3 organizations off our waitlist to contribute to.  With the recent economic downturn, our supply available for donations has substantially decreased. We have so much gratitude for companies like Schlumberger who step up to help us fulfill a charity’s wishlist! We are so pleased CBFY received 18 laptops to give youth the opportunity to thrive in school and join in on important settlement initiatives by having access to technology.

The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth (CBFY) is a charitable not for profit youth-centred and a family-focused hub that originated in the year 1990 and supports over 12,785 individuals annually. For 30 years CBFY has provided a welcoming and inclusive environment for immigrant and refugee children, youth, and their families by enriching them with the appropriate skills, information, knowledge, and experience as they build a life in Canada. Their core value statement and what drives their passion is “Youth Thrive and not Merely Survive”.

CBFY takes its inspiration from Maya Angelou.“My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style”. This personifies the characteristics of great men and women of CBFY who channel their energies into the betterment of all their clients.

Their values are captured in the following acronym “BRIDGE”:

  • Belonging
  • Respect
  • Innovation
  • Diversity
  • Generosity
  • Excellence

CBFY’s programs focus on building knowledge of Canada and Calgary’s culture; active participation and integration within the local community; improved English language skills; development of personal, social and leadership skills; and successful graduation from school. Their staff is culturally sensitive to the needs of individuals from varying cultures and communities. They tailor their support to youth and their families based on their background, experience, and level of need. Every interaction is meant to ease the journey to Canadian life for newcomers and immigrants. Visit their website here to learn more about these programs.
