By electronic recycling association February 27, 2020

Calgary Society for Equity in Tech is a local volunteer-administered collective that offers low cost classes and events in technology to the Calgary community. The Electronic Recycling Association was happy to donate a projector and monitor to assist them with their class presentations.

The Calgary Society for Equity in Technology (CSET) is a network of peers who facilitate classes, workshops, and skill-sharing events outside of a traditional institutional setting. Their classes and events are for people to share knowledge and experiences, make connections, and learn from one another. CSET attempts to make space for anyone to come together as they are a queer, trans, femme, racialized, neurodivergent, low-income, marginalized in other ways, and active allies who follow safer space standards. This will always be something they must improve on and struggle to achieve.

CSET gives much credit to the formal institution that it bloomed from, and the work that the former directors/teachers/volunteers of Calgary School of Informal Education. Without their guidance, CSET would not exist.

A primary goal of Calgary Society for Equity in Technology is to be inclusive to the largest number of contributors, with the most varied and diverse backgrounds possible. As such, they are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and religion (or lack thereof).

The ERA supports equality and learning from one another in an environment that shows respect to all. We will be working to fill the remainder of their request for computers but currently have a waitlist of over 300 organizations also in need. If you have unwanted IT equipment that you need to dispose of safely and securely, visit one of our depots and help ERA continue to support charities, non-profits, schools and care facilities all across Canada.

If you are interested in signing up for a class or would like to check out an event at CSET, visit their website here.
