The Etobicoke Humane Society (EHS) is an independent, all-volunteer, federally registered charity serving the Greater Toronto Area since 1987.

EHS began over 30 years ago as the Etobicoke Animal Welfare Society (EAWS) and subsequently became a registered charity, registered as the Etobicoke Humane Society. As a federally registered charity, EHS operates entirely from donations and their own fundraising efforts.

EHS is an independent shelter. Their operations are not administered by nor funded by the OSPCA, the Toronto Humane Society, the City of Toronto Animal Services nor any other organization. EHS operations are overseen by a volunteer board of directors. Everyone involved at EHS is a volunteer, including their board of directors, shelter volunteers, office volunteers, and program coordinators. EHS has no paid employees.

Their services are available for cats and dogs. They moved into a rented facility in April 2012, allowing them to offer on-site sheltering and adoption. Off-site fostering is also used to further expand its services for special needs animals.

EHS does not euthanize any animal due to lack of space, taking in only those animals for which we have a shelter or foster homes. Euthanasia is considered only in rare instances when a vet determines that it would be the only humane alternative. Further, they do not allow any animal in our care to be used for research.

They operate a variety of programs that enable them to achieve their mission, relying on the commitment of dedicated volunteers and supporters. If you would like to volunteer, donate or become a member, please take action by giving them a call or visit their Volunteers and Ways To Donate pages.

The Etobicoke Humane Society is upgrading some services and they are in need of computers for volunteers to access their pet program cloud services. The ERA was delighted to donate three desktops and two laptop computers to assist with the running of their operations so that they can continue to rescue hundreds of animals each year. The daily care, medical attention, and affection for every animal that comes through their door is invaluable. “And we would like to Thank You, ERA, for this very needed donation. Appreciate ERA for all their assistance.”
