ERA Gives 6 Computer to Society for Treatment of Autism

By electronic recycling association February 25, 2021

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) recently donated 6 desktop computers to the Society for Treatment of Autism (STA).  The pandemic has prompted STA to pivot and provide services virtually to support individuals with ASD and their families. The devices will allow their teams to effectively serve the families in their programs.

Society for Treatment of Autism is a provincial resource and registered charity providing individualized treatment that is both developmentally appropriate, and empirically based. Services are specialized to meet the needs of persons with Autism Spectrum Disorders and their families. Programming is designed, implemented, and supported by a multidisciplinary team. STA offers a diverse range of treatment programs across a range of environments (e.g., home, community, and/or treatment centre) that are designed to enhance participation in all aspects of life. STA goal is to support those we serve to achieve their maximum potential.

STA is a large multi-disciplinary team of psychologists, behavioural consultants, speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, teachers, early intervention therapists, behavioural therapists, adolescent and adult facilitators, program supervisors and managers who provide a range of services across ages and across the autism spectrum.  They believe in people with autism and know the benefits that tested and scientifically proven supports and services can bring.  STA knows what parents go through when they receive a diagnosis of autism.  The emotions can be overwhelming, and the system frustratingly difficult to understand.  That’s why support starts immediately after diagnosis.  With a consultation and a plan, STA helps parents negotiate the system and find resources. Then they partner with families and go to work addressing identifies priorities and needs.  They are there for you and your child, regardless of age.

At the ERA, we understand that fostering the community now, means building for our future. We’re happy to provide organizations that work to train, assist, and develop the communities we serve by providing for their IT needs. Simulating a community of innovation is engrained in ERA’s vision. We work to reach our vision by providing for the IT needs of various non-profits, charities, schools, care centers, and individuals in need all across Canada.

The ERA is able to execute hundreds of donations each year by collecting unwanted electronic devices from companies and individuals who are no longer in need of their use. Each device we collect undergoes an inspection process to test for functionality, a data wipe procedure using Blancco’s highly renowned data erasure technology and a fresh operating system installation. With the devices that we collect that are non-functional, our techs strip the items for working parts to put towards a new piece. The ERA then works with charities, non-profits, care centers, schools, and individuals in need to donate our refurbished devices.

Dropping off your used electronics to one of our depots or booking a pickup allows the ERA to continue collecting various electronic items that we can refurbish and donate back to those in need all across Canada.
