ERA Selected as Partner for York University’s ‘C4’ Capstone Classroom Project

By electronic recycling association September 9, 2020

The ERA is excited to announce that we have been selected by York University to be included in their C4 Project! We can’t wait to see what their students come up with regarding the following proposed challenges:

  • How might the ERA utilize different types of relationships towards our end goal?
  • How might the ERA curate new marketing content catered towards new clients?
  • How might the ERA develop new, positive engagement among businesses?

There are many great ways to finish off a degree program, several of which involve experiential education—such as a placement, co-op, practicum, or internship. But a capstone is different. It does not involve students’ working for someone else, but rather working for themselves and  towards the future they envision, for themselves and the world.

What is C4?

Cross-Campus Capstone Classroom–or C4 for short–offers their project partners access to a multidisciplinary think tank of upper-level students. Teams will research and develop innovative solutions for challenges facing non-profits, start-ups, and businesses who want to make a real social impact.

What makes a great C4 project?

A great C4 project requires students to apply their prior academic experience to a “real-world” challenge, identified by a knowledgeable partner organization. Importantly, it is not intrinsic to the running of the organization that pitched the challenge as capstone students need the autonomy to design and lead their own projects. C4 especially values projects that are community-engaged, digitally integrated, socially impactful, and disciplinary boundary crossing—that will last approximately eight months.

What does C4 require of partner organizations?

Each organization selected for a C4 project will need to appoint a “mentor,” who will invest a small amount of time communicating with students over the school year (10-20 hours total between Sept – Apr). Depending on the status of the organization, participation in C4 will be either free or available for a participation fee.
