10 Winners Will Receive Up To $10,000

The Electronic Recycling Association is proud to announce that we will be holding our first-ever Scholarship competition. We are looking for bright, young students with an interest in the environment to host a collection event at their location. Students will gain experience in event planning and hosting. The top 10 winners will receive prizes of up to $10,000.

Are you eligible?

Must be a full-time/part-time student in Canada. It must be located in our operating areas (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Montreal).

What are we looking for?

  • We need you to come up with a plan to host an e-waste collection event (used or unwanted electronic devices). Then, send your plan to our team by filling in the form below.
  • ERA will review the plan, give our feedback and then approve once it meets our requirements.
  • You will then start the process of hosting a collection event in your area.
  • You will be over every detail of this event. Use the internet to spread the word and gain as much visibility as possible!
  • After you have followed through with the event, the team at ERA will evaluate your work and pick 10 winners!

What items do we accept?

  • Consumer Electronics (gaming consoles, iPods and mp3 players, stereo equipment, etc)
  • Desktop Computers (PC & Mac, monitors, parts, motherboards, etc)
  • Handheld devices (smartphones, cell phones, tablets, etc)
  • Laptops (PC & Mac, docking stations, parts, cables, etc)
  • Printers (Inkjet & Laserjet, plotters, copiers, scanners, fax machines, etc)
  • Peripherals (keyboards, mice, CD/DVD ROMs, cards, accessories, etc)
  • Phone Systems
  • Racks and miscellaneous (Server racks, lab equipment, disk arrays, etc)
  • Servers (Rackmount, stand-alone, all brands, etc)
  • Software (operating system, editing, design, etc)
  • Specialty items (Cisco networking, switches, routers, etc)

*Note: Items collected can be in working or non-working conditions

Where should you host this event?

Host this event at your school, at a Business, in a Community Centre, your local Mall or come up with an idea of your own the possibilities are endless. (You will need the approval of the place you host your event in)

When should you start?

This competition will start on March 1st and run until October 31st, 2020. All applications to participate in this competition will be accepted from March 1st to May 31st, 2020.

How will the winner be decided?

The winner will be decided on the quantity and quality of the equipment collected and the visibility of the event received through online and offline communications.

What do you do about promotional material for the event?

ERA will supply each candidate with a banner, cage, and logo. We will also provide drop off and pick up services through this event.  The rest is up to you.

Why is ERA holding this competition?

ERA like to get the community involved in many ways throughout the year. This competition gives students the opportunity to gain experience and if they are successful, to win a prize that would help them financially with their future career plans.

Types of Scholarships available for the winning 10

  1. 1st place: $10,000 (Includes Mac Book Pro and pick a charity to move to the top of ERA’s list)
  2. 2nd place: $5,000 (Includes Mac Book Pro and pick a charity to move to the top of ERA’s list)
  3. 3rd place: $3,000 (Includes Mac Book Pro and pick a charity to move to the top of ERA’s list)
  4. $1,000 (Includes Mac Book Pro and pick a charity to move to the top of ERA’s list)
  5. $1,000 (Includes Mac Book Pro and pick a charity to move to the top of ERA’s list)
  6. to 10. (Includes Mac Book Pro and pick a charity to move to the top of ERA’s list)

*Note: The top 5 winners will receive the scholarship amount in cheque form.
