By electronic recycling association March 29, 2021

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is proud to announce the donation of 10 laptops to the Gift Lake Metis Settlement to be distributed to community members in need.

Gift Lake Metis Settlement is a community in Northern Alberta with a population of 658 people living in the community and has 589 settlement members that are living on or off the settlement. It is located along Highway 750 and approximately 90 kilometres north of High Prairie. Their learning centre consists of Headstart preschool program, Gift Lake School, and Northern Lakes College. Visit their website here for more information on other services.

Viewing regular access to a personal computer as a non-essential luxury is a thing of the past. Even basic activities now require the use of a computer; applying for a job, completing schoolwork, staying in touch with family or even something as simple as looking up a bus route is difficult without a computer. The Electronic Recycling Association has developed a charitable computer donation program to address exactly that problem.

We work with charities across the country to provide refurbished electronics for their programs. This gives them access to reliable technology while allowing them to apply their resources to what they’re good at: developing programs to help Canadians struggling with poverty, health concerns or are otherwise experiencing misfortune. Because the Electronic Recycling Association is an advocate of equality, we are not specifically affiliated with a given charity. The ERA helps hundreds of charitable organizations each year through the donation of necessary computer equipment. Organizations qualified for donations through ERA’s donation program include: registered charities, non-profit organizations, care facilities (seniors homes, hospitals, daycares, etc.) and educational institutions.

The ERA is focused on reducing unnecessary waste and/or environmental impact through effective management of retiring electronic and IT equipment.  As a non-profit organization with deep community roots, it is our “reuse” focus and donation activities that set us apart from others in this sector. We are an ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 Certified Company that offers pickup services, comprehensive data security measures and subsequent reporting. Individuals and organizations alike move through technology hardware for a number of different reasons, and often there is ongoing productive use.  The ERA believes that “reuse” where ever possible is the most ecological approach to this growing stream, and an excellent way to compel real community goodwill at the same time.
