Gifted Children at FIRST Robotics are Gifted Laptops

By electronic recycling association October 7, 2019

Last week, we had the pleasure of donating 15 laptops to an organization called FIRST Robotics Society. The FIRST Robotics Society helps co-ordinate all aspects of FIRST programming, including connecting students with local teams, finding mentors to help support those teams, providing educational resources to teams, and organizing FIRST top level robotics competitions for FIRST LEGO League Jr. (FLL Jr.), FIRST LEGO League (FLL), FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).

Founded in 2013, the Society relies entirely on the amazing generosity of their forward-thinking sponsors and the countless hours put in by volunteers. Through these, they are able to support organizations all over Western Canada to deliver outstanding, fun and educational programs for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

Here are two videos on the programs they have to give individuals a better insight into who they are as a society:

FIRST LEGO League is…

FIRST Tech Challenge is…

The laptops will be used for coding/programming robots in two of their programs.  Specifically, FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge as part of their seasonal robotics competitions.  The theme for this year is CITY SHAPER and SKYSTONE, and the laptops will be designated to new teams and teams in need. This donation would not have been possible if it was not for our proud donors Pembina Pipeline Corporation. Gerry Samuelson, Supervisor of IS Service Desk at Pembina said, “I really appreciate the work both of your organizations do!”

Speaking with Kimberley Werezak, Assistant Regional Director at FIRST Robotics Society she says, “Thank you again for this!  The teams are very excited to receive them!” If you would like to learn more about this amazing organization, please click here.
