Founded in 2004, The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a nonprofit organization with a mission to reduce electronic waste and the negative impact it has on our environment. The ERA focuses on two things: 1. educating the public about the environmental implications of improperly discarded electronic waste; and 2. providing accessible solutions to the public to safely dispose of unwanted equipment, to reduce or even eliminate the toxic electronic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills.
The ERA accomplishes its goals by partnering with corporations and individuals who have unwanted electronic and IT equipment to donate. They start by removing all of the data from the hardware and then evaluate the equipment for reuse. What they are unable to acceptably refurbish is appropriately recycled, ensuring a nil landfill contribution.
As a nonprofit with deep community roots, it is The Electronic Recycling Association’s focus on reuse and donation activities that sets them apart from other organizations in this sector. They are an ISO 9001:2008 Certified Company that offers pickup services, comprehensive data security management and subsequent reporting. Individuals and organizations alike update and change technology solutions for a number of different reasons, and often there is ongoing productive use for the electronic equipment they no longer use. The ERA believes that refurbishment and reuse where possible is the most ecological approach and an excellent way to compel real community goodwill at the same time.
