The Salvation Army is an international Christian organization that began its work in Canada in 1882 and has grown to become one of the largest non-governmental direct providers of social services in the country. The Salvation Army gives hope and support to vulnerable people today and every day in 400 communities across Canada and more than 130 countries around the world.

They offer practical assistance for children and families, often tending to the basic necessities of life, provides shelter for homeless people and rehabilitation for people who have lost control of their lives to an addiction. When you give to The Salvation Army, you are investing in the future of marginalized and overlooked people in your community.

As the largest non-governmental direct provider of social services in Canada, The Salvation Army provides unprecedented support to society’s most vulnerable. Social and community service programs focus on nurturing the capacities, skills and strengths of individuals rather than just meeting their needs.

  • They provided 3,800 shelter, addictions, detox and mental health beds for vulnerable men, women and families in Canada
  • They served 3.4 million free meals
  • They assisted 1,186,000 persons with food, clothing or practical assistance

The Salvation Army offers a variety of services and programs throughout Alberta and the Northern Territories for members of the communities that we serve. These activities are motivated by a belief that each individual possesses an inherent worth and dignity. It is the goal of The Salvation Army to restore dignity and hope in the lives of those we serve through these programs as they experience times of need.

Ministry units in their Division offer programs and services tailored to their area, city, or community to best meet the needs of vulnerable or marginalized people. This can include food banks, school nutrition programs, life-skills classes such as ESL or anger management, Christmas assistance, after-school programs, and more.
