Shell Canada & ERA Partner to Donate 30 Laptops to CUPS Calgary and YWCA

By electronic recycling association July 14, 2021

Shell Canada is a long-standing client of The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) and a huge contributor to our donations program. Without organizations like these who make a concerted effort to be involved in their community, ERA would not be able to help as many organizations every year as we do. We were proud to partner on the donation of 30 laptops to CUPS Calgary and the YWCA.

Shell Canada is an integrated energy company that aims to meet the world’s growing demand for energy in ways that are economically, environmentally and socially responsible. As a global energy company operating in a challenging world, they set high standards of performance and ethical behaviours. They are judged by how they act – their reputation is upheld by how they live up to our core values of honesty, integrity and respect for people.

CUPS Calgary needs laptops for their low- or fixed-income clients, so they can remain connected to their agency’s integrated services and supports. Their clients will use these devices to access remote counselling sessions, parent education programs, and case coordination services, as well as to connect with their network of natural supports. These devices will be instrumental in their clients’ progress and growth while they continue to deliver programs virtually, and will combat the social isolation they have been experiencing.

YWCA needs laptops for their LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) students who are taking the English classes fully online and don’t have a proper device to join the online class. You can visit their website here for more information on their programs and services.

The ERA is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address the growing problem of e-waste and the increasing ‘digital divide’. For over fifteen years, ERA has offered simple solutions to help individuals and organizations prevent operational equipment from premature destruction. With a focus on recovery, refurbishment and reuse, ERA continuously supplies charitable groups with donated IT equipment while securely managing the retiring IT assets of organizations and individuals across Canada.

We believe that reuse before recycling is critical in managing the waste created by computer hardware, and by offering industry-leading data destruction for all equipment we receive, we have securely repurposed hundreds of tons of equipment. Because not everything ERA receives can be reasonably repurposed, we have partnered with certified recycling organizations to process equipment that has reached the end of its productive life.
