Plast is a Ukrainian youth organization based on scouting principles. They are a non-profit organization that teaches youths about respecting nature and how to live outdoors and create a better world for everyone. Plast’s goal is a comprehensive, non-political self-education of young people in the Ukrainian spirit. It was founded in 1911 in Lviv. Since then, it has spread throughout the world. Plast now exists in the following countries: Ukraine, Canada, USA, England, Germany, Australia, Argentina, Poland, and Slovakia.

In Calgary, Plast has been around since the 1980s, though single plasters have been around since the 1960s. Calgary Plastuns converge on Saturdays – a novice from 1 – 2:30, and youth from 3 – 5 at the St. Stephen Catholic Church located at 4903 45 Street SW.

The formation program covers the acquisition of different knowledge. Achievements of individual levels and skills are distinguished. The layered program includes various activities:

  • Weekly classes: stairs, games, sports, singing
  • Living in nature: walks, camps, campfires
  • Fostering of Ukrainian traditions: Easter customs (pebbles and towers), St. Andrew’s Day, carols, Kupala Holiday

Plastun’s Main Duties

  1. Plastun honors God and Ukraine
  2. Plastun listens to his tutors and lives by the law of formation.
  3. Plastun helps others and tries to be better every time.

The Dr. Oleksander Tysovsky Memorial Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded by Plast Ukrainian Youth Association of Canada (1978) Local Group of Calgary to students who are residents of southern Alberta. It recognizes the contribution of an individual working in a leadership capacity in a Ukrainian-Canadian organization where activities are conducted in the Ukrainian language. The value of the scholarship will be $3,500 and will be awarded to one recipient.

ERA was happy to supply the Plast Ukrainian Scout Youth Organization with 2 projectors to assist them with their operations. But they are still in need of 16 computers for the youth to learn material, conduct research, and for presentations. ERA is working to fill this request but need all the help we can get. We are finding it extremely difficult to obtain enough donations from individuals to fulfill every charitable organizations’ wish so we are calling out to all companies disposing of their unwanted electronic devices. Book your pickup with us today and we will ensure your contribution has a positive impact on a charity, non-profit organization, school or care facility in your area.
