Upgrading Electronics for Black Friday? Consider Donating Your Old Ones

Instead of letting it sit idle in your home or throwing it away, why not donate it?

Black Friday is a huge shopping day with amazing deals, and many of the best Black Friday deals were electronics this year. Laptops, tablets, phones, video game consoles, and more are all part of the Black Friday buying frenzy. Electronics are on almost everyone’s list, because people want to get the newest and best versions of things. This huge shopping day for many meant amazing deals, but it often also means unwanted gadgets needing a new home.

If electronics were on your Black Friday shopping list, you probably were replacing some things that are already in your house. Bear in mind that electronics can be reused to reduce the negative impact e-waste has on the environment.  Don’t just throw away your old electronics when you replace them with new ones, consider donating it.

It’s always nice to give back, and a used computer is a valuable tool for a family or organization without the resources to buy one.  These days, it’s hard to do homework, apply for a job, or even schedule appointments for medical treatment without access to a computer and internet.

If you’d like to contribute an unwanted device to a family or organization in need, the Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) can help you make that happen.  Just bring your pre-loved devices to one of our depots across Canada and we will work to distribute them back into the community.

The Electronic Recycling Association (ERA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 to address the growing problem of e-waste and the increasing ‘digital divide’. For over fifteen years, ERA has offered simple solutions to help individuals and organizations prevent operational equipment from premature destruction. With a focus on recovery, refurbishment and reuse, ERA continuously supplies charitable groups with donated IT equipment while securely managing the retiring IT assets of organizations and individuals across Canada.

We believe that reuse before recycling is critical in managing the waste created by computer hardware, and by offering industry-leading data destruction for all equipment we receive, we have securely repurposed hundreds of tons of equipment. Because not everything ERA receives can be reasonably repurposed, we have partnered with certified recycling organizations to process equipment that has reached the end of its productive life.
