The Sierra Leone Canadian Children’s Aid Society (SLCCAS) is Toronto-based humanitarian, charitable, and developmental organization that works to promote awareness and provide therapeutic resources to children who have experienced abuse and neglect. Founded by a group of African and Canadians, the society also works with the Children’s Aid Society in Sierra Leone. Together, they work to increase the quality of education provided to children in Sierra Leone. Together their combined mission is to encourage students to graduate from school and combat child abuse, neglect, violence, and more among school-aged children and bring awareness to Canadians of the issues Sierra Leone children are subject to.

Back in Canada, the SLCCAS positions themselves as being the voice of child welfare. They work to provide communications, information management, education, parenting aid, and child abuse training through a 16-week parenting group and various educational materials. Through the programs the society offers, their goal is to nurture and support a child though their fundamental and developmental years.

SLCCAS reached out to the ERA for 4 printers, 2 projectors, and one laptop to support a mentorship program that provides virtual/distance learning. These devices will be able to sustain the programs already running, enhance programs affected by the pandemic, and increase resources of the charitable causes needed to support their community.

The ERA is delighted to provide SLCCAS with the devices needed to continue running their programs throughout the pandemic.

From the start of our formation, the ERA has always been a strong advocate for enhancing educational learning for students. Our organization was formed after recognizing that useable electronics were being thrown away into the landfill. For over 15 years, we have been collecting IT devices from various companies across Canada and have opened 7 depots for the public to drop off their electronics at. With the thousands of devices we receive, the ERA has been able to support not only schools with laptops, printers, and many more various IT devices, but care centers, non-profit organizations, and charities as well.

Just as SLCCAS had shifted their educational programs to online methods, the Electronic Recycling Association launched Lending Laptops in response to the pandemic. Through Lending Laptops, we have been able to provide individuals with devices to support online learning. When we received the SLCCAS’s request, we understood the importance of providing the devices needed to support online learning.

Help us continue supporting online education by donating your unwanted electronics to the ERA. Book a pickup and our team will come to you!
